Hello Readers, Welcome To JK Student Update. In this article, I, Zahid Sheikh, will delve into the recent surge in electricity bills faced by residents in Kashmir, particularly in the southern regions.
Residents across south Kashmir are expressing dissatisfaction with the consistent hikes in electricity bills imposed by the Power Development Department (PDD). This has led to financial strain on households, prompting locals to urge authorities to reconsider their decision.
Unraveling the Issue:
Ab Rashid from Litter revealed that bills have seen significant increases, ranging from Rs 1050 to 1300 per month for some consumers. The lack of surveys before inflating bills has added to the frustration, with residents feeling blindsided by the sudden escalation.
Impact of Unscheduled Power Cuts:
Subzar Ahmad from Shopian highlighted the paradox of unscheduled power cuts affecting residents while bills continue to rise. This has raised concerns about the fairness of increased load agreements and bill amounts, especially without prior consent from consumers.

Ab Hamid from Anantnag voiced worries over frequent tariff hikes, urging the government to consider the financial strain on the poor. He proposed differentiated rates for Above Poverty Line (APL) and Below Poverty Line (BPL) ration card holders, emphasizing the importance of tailored schemes to address diverse economic backgrounds.
Appeal for Review:
Residents are collectively appealing to the PDD to review its decision, emphasizing the potential hardships imposed on the people. The call for reconsideration aims to find a more balanced approach to electricity tariff adjustments, considering the impact on financially weaker sections of the community.
